Client Service Monthly Highlights – November 2010
December 8th, 2010 by ProcessFlows
This is the first post of a series of monthly blog entries
… giving the ProcessFlows Business Blog readers an idea of what we get up to on the Client Services side of the business.
Over the coming months this will cover news from everyone on the technical side of the business – Installations, Service Desk and Project Management.
Moving on…
We had an urgent request from one of our hardware maintenance customers this month -
They had been running a small project to move their hardware between datacenters that had been on the back burner for several months.
In mid-November, it sprang back into life with a ten day deadline. It was not the world’s largest relocation, involving only a few IBM x-series servers, storage arrays and backup, but the systems were running a critical application that had to be up and running again by the Monday morning.
Domain, IP, VLAN and Oracle changes all added to the complexity. Most crucially, the systems had not been powered down for several years and there was no adequate window within which to perform a full failover test. So, the weekend was set to be a tense affair, kicking off at Saturday lunchtime.
We did a week of planning and preparation, which thankfully allowed us to cope with the hardware failures that struck on the Sunday.
The onsite team were able to rely on the IBM supply and resourcing teams, who had replacement hardware and an engineer onsite within a couple of hours on the Sunday afternoon. Altogether, this meant that we had a functioning system up and running by the Monday deadline.
Datacenter moves are just one of specialties of our Onsite Client Services team.
